    • More than 4,700 pounds of food and other items were collected at the Summerlin Smith’s food drive. The event benefits the Salvation Army Food Bank and was part of “Make A Difference Day,” a national charity event. Over 15 years, the drive has collected more than 29 tons of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items.

    • Station Casinos donated $50,000 to 10 local elementary schools as part of the Smart Start program, a partnership between Station Casinos, the Clark County School District and the Public Education Foundation. In addition, Station Casinos presented each of the schools’ principals with 1,500 free buffets for their staffs. In 13 years, Station Casinos has donated $2.5 million to partner schools.

    • The fountain at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood turned blue this month in recognition of juvenile diabetes. Change tossed into the water will be donated to the local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation chapter. In addition, Pampas Churrascaria Brazilian Grille is offering guests who make a $5 donation to JDRF this month a two-for-one dinner.

    • Hash House A Go Go is selling “Toy Tractor Driver” pancakes this month to support Help of Southern Nevada. The pancakes feature red and green M&Ms topped with powdered sugar and maple syrup. The restaurant will donate $2 from every sale to Help of Southern Nevada.

    • Surfset Las Vegas, which offers surfboards fitness classes, will partner with Dress for Success Southern Nevada next month for a one-day donation drive. A portion of all class fees Dec. 7 will go to Dress for Success.

    • Las Vegas’ 15 Dunkin’ Donuts locations are collecting items for a family supported by the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. The restaurant chain will donate items selected by customers and reward customers with a free medium coffee.

    • Firefly Tapas & Kitchen Bar is hosting a toy drive through Dec. 20 to benefit foster children, including those in the care of the Clark County Department of Family Services and Child Haven. Customers can drop off new, unwrapped toys at any Firefly location and receive a free tapa or glass of sangria.

    • Urology Specialists of Nevada will collect donations for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission’s annual Food Drive through Dec. 31.

    • Hakkasan at the MGM Grand joined with the Southern Nevada affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to create a $70, three-course, prix-fixe menu in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A portion of the proceeds went to support local breast cancer services and national research programs.

    • Winder Farms, a grocery delivery company, is spearheading turkey donations for Three Square Food Bank through Dec. 31. The cost of the turkey can be added to customers’ bills, and Winder Farms will deliver them. To mark the launch of the drive, 15 Winder Farm employees visited Three Square and filled more than 1,100 bags of food for the “BackPack for Kids” program.

    • The Clark County School District’s Virtual High School and Academy for Individualized Study is hosting a laptop drive to collect computers for students who want to take online classes. The school will accept computers in good working condition, and donations will be refurbished and wiped clean by U.S. Micro Corp. The drive runs through Dec. 31.

    • Sudden Impact Auto Body and the Salvation Army will collect winter coats, blankets and sleeping bags for the homeless. Items can be dropped off at Sudden Impact’s Boulder Highway location or Salvation Army thrift stores.

    • WestCare, a nonprofit group that helps people with addictions and mental health disorders, has a new website, www.WestCare.com.

    • Employees of the Glenn Group, a public relations and advertising firm, volunteered in classrooms at Pat Diskin Elementary School as part of Junior Achievement’s “JA in a Day” program. The Glenn Group also raised more than $1,600 for the organization with its “Great Causetume Contest.”

    • Bank of America donated $200,000 to Communities In Schools of Nevada to expand staff and operations to care for at-risk students in the Clark County School District. Bank of America has donated almost $225,000 to the nonprofit since 2008.

    • MGM Resorts International employees pledged $4.7 million this year to nonprofit organizations in Nevada, Michigan and Mississippi. The MGM Resorts Foundation has raised $54 million to support more than 2,000 charities since its inception in 2002.

    • Roberto’s Taco Shop partnered with the Nevada State College Foundation to establish the Roberto’s Taco Shop Scholarship Program, which will provide $10,000 in annual scholarship money to five students. Preference will be given to students majoring in psychology, biology, business administration, criminal justice, law enforcement, education or nursing.

    • City National Bank and Shred-it held a community shredding event and collected contributions for Baby’s Bounty.

    • Boys Town Nevada received a two-year, $2-million grant from the Englestad Family Foundation to support and expand its services. A portion of the grant will be used to provide services to families of students at Von Tobel Middle School and Jeffers, Tate and Herron elementary schools. The project is a collaborative effort between Boys Town, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, Clark County School District, Boys and Girls Club and Latin Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation.
