Cox Communications will bring high-speed fiber internet service to Laughlin and Cal-Nev-Ari, connecting two southern Clark County communities through an $8.1 million infrastructure investment, officials said today.

The expansion comes through a partnership with the state’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology. The project is funded through the American Rescue Plan’s Capital Project Funds, a $10 billion federal program created to address internet access gaps exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Access to high-speed internet improves lives and the economic strength of communities,” said Janet Uthman, the vice president of Cox Communications in Las Vegas, in a statement. “No matter where one chooses to live, they should have access to, and be able to afford a broadband connection.”

The fiber network expansion marks a significant infrastructure upgrade for the region’s southernmost communities. Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft called the project “a major milestone” that will enhance connectivity, boost local business development, improve education access and strengthen quality of life for residents.
