Pig the Dog

Found with littermates in woods near Atlanta, the 8-month-old mutt was adopted by Kim Dillenbeck of Helena, Ala. Pig runs and plays with other animals despite have a shortened spine, misshappen hips and no neck. She hops like a frog to stand up and walks with a high-shouldered gait that resembles a gorilla. A community leader demonstrates an alert given to the community when a child is abducted using a large drum, in Kampala, Uganda. When a child goes missing, the villagers beat drums into a soaring rhythm that sends rescuers scampering through bushes. Others, riding motorcycles, try to block exit routes. With children being kidnapped and killed in ritual murders, a traumatized community here has created a rudimentary but potentially effective abduction alert system that has saved at least two children this year.
