Communities In Schools Of Nevada

OUR MISSION
As the local affiliate of the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

OUR GOALS
Our goal is to implement the proven Communities In Schools model to:

  • Increase graduation rates and decrease dropout rates.

  • Raise awareness and advocate for the educational needs of students in Nevada.

  • Expand to meet the needs of the community.

  • Provide whatever it takes to help Nevada’s students stay in school and achieve in life.

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
Today For Tomorrow, Nov. 4: Today For Tomorrow is CIS of Nevada’s highly anticipated, seventh annual fall benefit gala, taking place Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6 – 10 p.m. at the Belmont Ballroom inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The annual philanthropic foodie event, themed “Groovy Nights” this year, will feature a mouth-watering culinary lineup from The Cosmopolitan’s roster of award-winning celebrity chefs, a disco dance floor, award-winning entertainment, silent and live auctions, and a live gaming area. Guests are strongly encouraged to dress in their grooviest duds and disco the night away.
Tickets and lounge seating are available for purchase on the CIS of Nevada website.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Tutor/Mentor: Participation in tutoring or mentoring is essential to addressing drop-out risk factors at all grade levels. We ask our volunteers to commit to a weekly one-on-one relationship for an entire semester with a student at a preferred grade-level after being placed as one of the following:

  • Tutor: The focus of the tutoring is to help K-12 students perform at grade level in designated subject areas such as reading and math.

  • Mentor: The mentor-mentee relationship is established to provide a responsible and reliable adult to serve as a friend and role model for at-risk students in middle and high school.

Guest Speakers: If you cannot commit to a regular, weekly meeting during school hours, you can still make a positive impact in students’ lives: by being a guest speaker to address the CIS Academy and describe their path or alternative paths to success.
