Property owners filed a record number of property tax assessment appeals this year, county officials said Thursday. The number of appeals filed was up 13.8 percent compared to last year — 9,450 appeals compared to 8,302 in 2010, officials said.

Las Vegas residents have a new option for crossing the valley thanks to the opening today of a bridge connecting Sunset Road over Interstate 15. Officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the bridge Thursday morning and it opened to traffic about noon. The bridge offers a new east-west route across I-15 but doesn’t have access to the freeway.
