Two bridges on Interstate 15 in Mesquite were replaced Tuesday night within a couple of hours using hydraulic jacks, metal beams and Dawn dish soap in a process called accelerated bridge construction. Engineers from around the U.S. joined the Nevada Department of Transportation and its partners to see the bridge slide.
For 20 minutes Nevada Highway Patrol troopers pursued a swerving Dodge truck hauling a trailer Tuesday afternoon traveling northbound on U.S. 95. When the 74-year-old Northern Nevada man driving the truck pulled over near the Craig Road exit he was arrested on suspicion of DUI, said Trooper Loy Hixson.
A man riding a bicycle Tuesday night was hit by an SUV near Jones and Lake Mead boulevards, Metro Police said. The bicyclist, in his 20s, was taken to University Medical Center for head injuries and was in serious to critical condition, police said.
A North Las Vegas man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife who Metro Police say died from injuries she suffered in a beating. Douglas Jones, 57, faces felony counts of murder and domestic battery after his wife, Shaunna Jones, 53, was found dead on Jan. 6, according to the Clark County district attorney’s office.
Authorities seized 130 marijuana plants on Jan. 5 from a home owned by a retired Metro Police officer, a Drug Enforcement Administration spokeswoman said. A High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas unit raided the home in the 1200 block of Trout Canyon Road, about 40 miles outside of the valley.
