WinCo Foods LLC said Wednesday that its first two Las Vegas-area grocery stores would have grand openings at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The storesare in Henderson at 80 N. Stephanie Street near Wigwam Parkway and in Las Vegas at 6101 N. Decatur Blvd. at the 215 Beltway.
WinCo, an employee-owned firm based in Boise, Idaho, said each of the Southern Nevada stores was about 94,000 square feet and would employ about 200 people.
WinCo operates 82 stores and four distribution centers. Outside of Nevada, its stores are in Washington, Idaho, California, Oregon and Utah.
The company said its stores were known as low-price leaders in their markets. In addition to typical grocery store departments, the stores offer bulk foods sections carrying more than 600 items.
WinCo said the Henderson store would be managed by longtime WinCo manager Sharon Guined, who is transferring from Eugene, Ore.; while the Las Vegas store would be managed by Jason Stopher, another longtime manager transferring from Twin Falls, Idaho.
In the Las Vegas area, WinCo will face competition from established operators including Supervalu Inc.’s Albertsons stores, Safeway Inc.’s Vons stores, Kroger Co.’s Smith’s markets, Costco, Walmart and several independent and specialty grocers.
