Describe your business.
Helios Cigar Lounge is a clean and comfortable smoking lounge with comfortable leather chairs to sit and watch sporting events on several large-screen TVs. The lounge is for men and women who want to smoke premium, hand-rolled cigars without having to pay premium prices. I want to give locals and tourists an unbelievable cigar-smoking experience.
As a transplant from Southern California, what prompted you to open a lounge in Las Vegas?
I’ve been coming to Las Vegas for years and have friends who have moved their businesses to Nevada from Southern California. I love the way this city and the different counties are pro-small business. I also love the energy that the city has.
Who are your clients/customers?
My clientele are men and women who want to enjoy great cigars and meet new people, and who want to have a chance to relax for a short period of time in their busy schedule.
How did you come up with the name of your business?
Helios means god of the sun. My 15-year-old son — who was 11 at the time — is really into Greek mythology and suggested it to me.
What sets your establishment apart from competitors?
Great customer service, clean environment and fair pricing. We are authorized sellers of several premium brands, such as Padrón, Arturo Fuente and Avo. We also have one of the largest selections of popular boutique cigars such as Roma Craft, Tatuaje, Caldwell, Warped, El Güegüense and Drew Estate.
We’re an authorized dealer of Stinky Cigar Ashtrays. The owner of Stinky lives in Las Vegas and is a regular supporter of the lounge. In addition to cigar accessories, we also sell many kinds of pipe tobaccos and tobacco pipe accessories.
What’s the best business advice you’ve received?
Never bring politics and religion into your business.
What obstacles has your business overcome?
There are many challenges that every business owner faces, and I have never looked at it as an obstacle. My business has faced many challenges, but I’m happy I was able to overcome them. We’re are currently trying to get a beer, wine and liquor license so our customers can enjoy a drink with their smoke.
