More road construction is coming to Las Vegas as officials broke ground Tuesday on the U.S. 95 Northwest Corridor Improvement Project. The project will widen U.S. 95 from Washington Avenue to Ann Road by adding a high-occupancy vehicle lane. It also includes major renovations to interchanges along the corridor and will add landscaping and sound walls to parts of the freeway. While the work means 2 1/2 years of construction for motorists, officials promise the end result will be worth the hassle and point out the economic benefits of construction.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has kicked off a new campaign to get its officers to wear seat belts and drive more safely after three officers were killed in vehicle crashes last year. Sherriff Doug Gillespie made the first presentation of the campaign to the officers at the Bolden Area Command Thursday night and held a Friday press conference to announce the effort.

Less than a month after opening, the Interstate 15 express lanes are already getting an update. Crews will be working on the northbound express lanes Thursday night and the southbound lanes on Sunday night.

Virgin Atlantic is celebrating its 10th anniversary of flying between Las Vegas and London, and is getting ready to add a new route between Las Vegas and the United Kingdom.
Clark County commissioners today continued to express their reluctance to use public funds to support an arena near the Strip. Competing proposals would require support from the county, which commissioners are hesitant to give.
The Regional Transportation Commission promises 2,000 more jobs are on the way as funding was approved Thursday for various road projects around Clark County.
The completion of the express lanes on Interstate 15 has been delayed again, the Nevada Department of Transportation says. The express lanes are now expected to open June 30 instead of next week as expected, spokesman Bob Mckenzie said.

Work on the next ACE rapid-transit bus line began Thursday as elected officials joined transportation planners for a ceremony on Boulder Highway. When it opens late next year, the ACE Green Line will use dedicated bus-only lanes on Boulder Highway, similar to the Metropolitan Area Express that runs on Las Vegas Boulevard North.
Instead of a traditional groundbreaking for the new ACE Green Line, the Regional Transportation Commission held a seed planting and watering Thursday, marking what officials hope will be the beginning of a world-class transit system. So far, they seem to be on track.
A small, blue plastic box may be the future of car insurance. The box, which plugs into the on-board diagnostic port of the car, wirelessly sends data to the driver’s insurance company. If motorists don’t mind sharing information with their insurer, it may save them some money.
The Regional Transportation Commission is spending $164.6 million of public money on the new ACE buses and their special bus stops in part because too many Las Vegans consider themselves too good to ride a bus.
